Last week on Bates Motel, the “pit” in question was a 23-ft deep monstrosity, that Norma (Vera Farmiga) thought meant Bob Paris (Kevin Rahm) was playing ball, but actually didn’t. In fact, he had his goons grab Norma’s little shrink/lover James (Joshua Leonard) to get the goods on her. And since she confessed all while on her bender, he had a lot to give up. Bob went straight to Romero (Nestor Carbonell) with this info. Needless to say, Romero is not pleased. Norman (Freddie Highmore) was really upset about what James said about him wanting his own mother. Come on, Norman! It cannot be that unbelievable to you. Caleb (Kenny Johnson) and Dylan (Max Thieriot) almost get killed gun running for Chick (Ryan Hurst). Caleb DID try to warn Dylan, but he couldn’t see past the money he needed to save Emma (Olivia Cooke).

Bates Motel 3.9 “Crazy” review: Norman runs into an old friend, Bradley (Nicola Peltz), whom Norman and Dylan helped out of town (and fake her death), after she killed her father’s former business partner in season 2. There is still a connection there, but Bradley, you may want to stop harassing Norman about what is wrong with him. It can’t end well.

Caleb comes through for Dylan (and Emma), by pummeling Chick into submission, and getting the money they deserve for the job. Caleb is really dangerous – you can tell by his constant desperation. You know we all thought Emma was dead when Dylan went to her room to see her. Just like he did.

Of the two, Norma seems to be winning the crazy contest she is having with her son. She’s yelling about hidden flash drives to Romero in a room full of cops. She’s shoveling dirt back in the hole at night in the dark. She start throwing away all of Norman’s taxidermy. ok, that one is not crazy. It’s a disgusting hobby, especially for a future (present?) serial killer.

Next week is the season finale, and I hope a few of these questions are answered:

1) Will Norman kill someone? Possibilities are Bradley (everyone thinks she’s dead anyway), Norma (although too soon), Caleb (that story he told Norma could be the foreshadowing), Bob Paris (he IS threatening boh he and Norma), James (he REALLY upset Norman), or somebody random.

2) What will Bob do once he knows Romero turned over the drive to the feds?

3) Is somebody going to come clean up that pool mess?

4) Will Chick be in the finale, exacting revenge on Dylan and Caleb?

5) Will Caleb come back?

6) How will they take the next crazy step with Norman?

What do you want the ending to include?

The Bates Motel season finale airs Monday, May 11th 9pm ET on A&E.

Bates Motel: Norman Questions His Mother’s Motives (S3, E9)

Norma says Norman’s hobby incriminates him, but Norman reminds her that her behavior is just as confusing in this scene from “Crazy.”

  1. Yes, I expect several characters will be saying bye-bye for good in the finale. The obvious choices are Bradley, Caleb, and Bob Paris. Losing Bradley and Bob obviously won’t have a huge impact on viewers so you have to expect there will be some additional surprises. With Caleb’s redemption into a pretty decent guy and a really good character on the show, it would suck to see him go, but I am fully expecting he’ll go down in a blaze of glory. The next obvious choices are Romero, Emma, and Dylan. I would add Norma to that list, but can the show really go forward without her, even if the version of Norma in Norman’s head is still around? I don’t think so. Maybe next year. And they sure have been talking a lot about Emma’s death in recent episodes, and if she and Dylan hook up and Norman sees it, well, ya never know! Dylan, the only sane character on the show, has become such a series highlight that I can’t imagine they’d let him go. But he is certainly in a lot of danger from many angles. If they do kill off Dylan I think everybody around him will unravel even more, which may be where the show is heading. Romero is an easier choice to kill off than Dylan or Emma, so that may be who they choose to axe. Should be interesting!
