‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Blu-ray Release Date, Details Officially Announced

After weeks of speculation regarding its inevitable home video bow, Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Home Entertainment have officially announced that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be coming to Blu-ray and DVD next month. In addition to a full list of special features we can expect, cover art for the individual editions were also unveiled today. There will also be some retailer exclusive editions featuring extra bonus content and special packaging.

The announcement was made this morning by The Walt Disney Company’s Chairman and CEO Robert A. Iger at an annual shareholders’ meeting that J.J. Abrams‘ long-awaited seventh installment in the Star Wars cinematic saga, which to date has grossed $926 million in the U.S. and $2.05 billion total around the world, will be available for sale on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on April 1, 2016 and on Blu-ray combo pack and DVD on April 5, 2016.

Here are the bonus features that will be included on the Blu-ray edition:

According to the official press release, Target, Walmart, and Best Buy will be offering their own special editions with exclusive content and packaging, which differ by retailer.

The Target Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-ray Combo Pack comes with exclusive packaging and an added 20 minutes of bonus content, including never-before-seen interviews with Daisy Ridley and John Boyega and a deeper look at the movie’s costumes and weaponry.

The Walmart Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-ray Combo Pack comes with exclusive BB-8 packaging and an exclusive Star Wars Galactic Connexions trading disc.

The Best Buy Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-ray Combo Pack features exclusive SteelBook Packaging.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Max Von Sydow, and Mark Hamill, and will be available on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on April 1, 2016 and on Blu-ray combo pack and DVD on April 5, 2016. Disney is also planning a 3D Blu-ray release for later this year.
