‘Galaxy Quest 2’ Almost Happened Recently
  |  @   |

Last summer it was reported that the TV series based on the sci-fi comedy Galaxy Quest being developed by Paramount would be coming to Amazon. But, as it turns out, there was more to the story than just that.

Star Sam Rockwell was a guest on the Nerdist podcast recently, and he dropped a bit of a shocker: not only was Galaxy Quest 2 a go, but all of the cast was on board for it and the movie was planned to be filming around now. Then came the devastating loss of Alan Rickman, and other cast members’ schedules began to conflict, so the sequel was off.

You can read Rockwell’s quote below.

“They were gonna do a [Galaxy Quest] sequel on Amazon, and we were ready to sign up for it”¦and you know, Alan Rickman passed away and then Tim Allen wasn’t available. He has a show, and everybody’s schedule was all weird”¦It was gonna shoot like right now”¦And how do you fill that void of Alan Rickman? That’s a hard void to fill.”

While Galaxy Quest 2 appears to be off for now, there’s no mention of where things stand on the TV series.

I certainly don’t think they should ever try to fill the void left by Rickman. He’s irreplaceable. But if you ask me, that doesn’t mean they couldn’t still do a sequel if they were able to come up with a good enough story. And clearly they had some idea where to go with it, so hopefully this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s completely dead. If they have something they feel is good enough to make that fans would want to see, I’d rather see them honor Rickman with it and dedicate it to his memory than never make it at all. All of that said, the original is just as great today as it’s ever been, so it’s perfectly okay if they never make a sequel.

What do you think? Should Galaxy Quest 2 still be made or should they leave it alone?
