Back in 1999, Dean Parisot made a little movie called Galaxy Quest, a scifi-adventure comedy starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and Alan Rickman, which at first glance seemed like a parody — and a poke at — scifi franchises like Star Trek. There’s the cast of a cancelled 1970s science fiction television series forced to eke out a living at science fiction fan conventions and grand opening store promotions 20 years after their heyday. Said cast resents the show’s main star, a scene-stealer who takes credit for their successes and often makes paid appearances without them. And there’s the rabid, geeky fans at the convention who seemingly can’t differentiate between an actor and the role he played.
But while Galaxy Quest is humorous in its parody of all those stereotypes, it turns out the film is actually a loving homage to science fiction and its loyal fans. And it’s perfect in every way.
Paramount Home Entertainment has announced the release of a Limited Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Steelbook for Galaxy Quest for the film’s 20th anniversary.
The special “Never Give Up, Never Surrender” 20th anniversary edition for the 1999 scifi action-comedy will be released on September 21, 2019 for purchase exclusively at Best Buy, and contains a host of bonus features, which are listed here below.
Back in April of 2015 we found out that a TV series based on the sci-fi comedy cult classic Galaxy Questwas being developed by Paramount Television. Then, later that same year came word that the project had been acquired by Amazon Studios.
Now Paul Scheer (The League, Childrens Hospital), who was hired to write the adaptation earlier this year, has shared an update on where the Galaxy Quest TV series stands and what he’s hoping to go with it. Continue below to see what he had to say.
Last summer it was reported that the TV series based on the sci-fi comedy Galaxy Quest being developed by Paramount would be coming to Amazon. But, as it turns out, there was more to the story than just that.
Star Sam Rockwell was a guest on the Nerdist podcast recently, and he dropped a bit of a shocker: not only was Galaxy Quest 2 a go, but all of the cast was on board for it and the movie was planned to be filming around now. Then came the devastating loss of Alan Rickman, and other cast members’ schedules began to conflict, so the sequel was off.
Alan Rickman, the beloved British actor whose influence has spanned generations, passed away today after a battle with cancer. The 69-year-old actor was best known to recent generations as Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film series, but also had notable roles in Die Hard, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and in the cult favorite Galaxy Quest.
Fans of the Harry Potter series take the news of Rickman’s passing as a particular blow considering Snape’s tragic story of lost love and his heroic death. As the news spreads, photos and memories of the actor are making their rounds on the internet. See below for some of what is being said about the extraordinary actor.
