Last week on The Last Man On Earth, Phil and Mike Miller (Will Forte and Jason Sudeikis) were finally reunited running towards each other on a beach, and ending with a punch to the groin. Everyone was horrified. At least it took the heat off the two pieces of news that had just been confessed: Todd (Mel Rodriguez) had been sleeping with Gail and Melissa (Mary Steenburgen and January Jones), and kissed Erica (Cleopatra Coleman), then proposed a four-way. And Phil admitted to Carol (Kristen Schaal) that he lied about his fertility test coming back positive.

Spoilers below.

Ah… the punch in the groin was over a girl – a girl that Phil had called dibs on. Then they cried, and I was glad because even though this show is a sometimes uncomfortable dark comedy, it has to have some glimmers of appropriate behavior.

The three women reject Todd at first, but then Melissa and Gail agree to share.A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do in the apocalypse.

Mike reveals Tandy’s nickname – “Skidmark.” And now everyone calls him that. Phil is not happy and sibling rivalry is out in full force. I actually feel bad for Phil again. How can he compete with his brother the astronaut?

Phil is back at being his insecure, one-upping self, but I do love his sincerity when he is alone with Carol. They are really good together.

Highlight of the episode: Jason Sudeikis playing and singing “Space Oddity” to tears. “Friggin’ Mike!”

Phil decides to throw his own party, but Mike steals all the limelight. Then Phil reveals plagiarism and a bad family secret – Mike ditched his dying Nana. Even Carol thinks Phil should apologize – bygones. Phil feels bad and intends to make things right. Until…

Mike got his revenge. Phil woke up with half his beard and head shaved. Burn!

This episode was different. At first I was not happy about Mike just being a straight rival replacement for the Phil that passed away. But now I think it could be fun, since Mike is no angel as well. He’s just way cooler.

The Last Man On Earth airs Sunday nights at 9:30pm ET on FOX.
