Robert Downey Jr. Says He’s Interested In ‘Iron Man 4’
  |  @   |

At first, the idea of Iron Man 4 it started out as a slip of the tongue when Robert Downey Jr. said he would be interested in the film. This was then quickly clarified with the actor backtracking on the statement. It had been reported that the actor would only be contracted for a few more films, particularly the Avengers sequels. However, that all changed when it was announced that Iron Man would have a major role in Captain America: Civil War. Some thought that the film could be mistaken for Iron Man 4, to which Downey Jr. assured that Civil War would be Captain America’s film. He went on to say that Iron Man 4 is definitely not on the table. Then the actor signed on to be in Spider-Man: Homecoming, something that had been speculated for a long time.

Now it is looking more like Iron Man 4 may actually happen. Emphasis on may. More on the story below.

In an ABC Nightline story covering the production, post-production, and press event for Captain America: Civil War, Downey Jr. addressed the idea about doing another Iron Man movie, saying “I feel like I could do one more,” with a cheeky smile.

Given the history, Downey Jr. could just be pandering to the journalist, who seems to be taking the opportunity to cover a film as massive as Civil War very lightly. I mean, why even ask if it is okay to shorten Chadwick Boseman’s name to Chad? But that is beside the point. The actor has been signing on for more films, more than what the reports said about his contract. Which may or may not indicate that he is interested in doing it again. If Downey Jr. is genuinely interested in having another Iron Man film, then this would be the first time we’ve heard of it. Of course, if he isn’t interested, then we should be hearing of a retraction very soon.

Even if it was in the cards, it would be difficult to schedule the film considering Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Black Panther (2018), Avengers: Infinity War Part I (2018), Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), Captain Marvel (2019), and Avengers: Infinity War Part II (2019) are all scheduled for a release. However, these films are not necessarily locked in for their scheduled release dates, as Marvel recently took off The Inhumans of its schedule.

Marvel Studios has yet to comment.

Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters on May 6, 2016. Be sure to check out our coverage on the film’s press event as well as our review.
