‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Star Chloe Bennet Frustrated With Lack Of Marvel Movie Acknowledgement
  |  @   |

Last year’s Marvel power split resulted in Kevin Feige assuming control over all things Marvel Studios and Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter at the mast of Marvel Entertainment. This split put an ever bigger rift between Marvel Studios and Marvel Television, who had promised its fans a cohesive universe among the properties seen on both the big and small screens. Now there are subtle narrative hints that the various television series make to the films, but the latter hardly seems to acknowledge their TV sisters. The most recent sign of trouble was when The Inhumans‘ release was pushed back indefinitely. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. had been using the characters as a device to move the narrative, but given the lack of harmony between the two, it was unlikely we would ever see the two unite in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War films.

Now S.H.I.E.L.D. star Chloe Bennet, who plays Skye, is expressing her frustrations over Marvel Studios not acknowledging the TV universe, despite the claim that the MCU is a shared universe. More on the story below.

Having recently appeared at Wizard World Des Moines, Bennet answered a question concerning why major MCU players like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, or even Hawkeye haven’t appeared on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Here’s what she said:

“I don’t know. People who make movies for Marvel, why don’t you acknowledge what happens on our show? Why don’t you guys go ask them that? Cause they don’t seem to care!”

The tone of that alone sounds a bit hostile, and something that Bennet is probably tired of answering since it is a rather popular question to ask. But it is something she has no control over, especially now that Marvel Studios and Marvel Television have different creative heads. One would like to read that as is, considering we didn’t hear her say it. For all we know she could have been joking around. But then she doubled down with this:

“The Marvel Cinematic Universe loves to pretend that everything is connected, but then they don’t acknowledge our show at all. So, I would love to do that, but they don’t seem too keen on that idea.”

Everyone would love to see some sort of connection, especially one with The Defenders. However, figuring out how to fit 67 cinematic characters into one film has made the idea of crossover with its TV counterparts nearly impossible. A major issue is that the TV writers would have to be in constant communication with Avengers screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The films are planned out so far in advance and Marvel Television is simply moving too fast for Marvel Studios to keep up.

But if it were to happen, it would take a serious amount of clear and constant communication to do so. And who knows, maybe it can happen. We will just have to wait and see.

  1. If the fans want it give it to them.

  2. I hope Chloe doesn’t suffer any kind of professional backlash for this. Sadly, most companies aren’t very big on their employees expressing individual opinions.
