It’s always great when the gang at Screen Junkies takes on Disney films in their Honest Trailers series. Not only do we get quality comedy, but Weird Al-style parodies of classic Disney songs. This time, it’s the newest Disney animated film with strong female characters, no forced romance, and a celebration of Polynesian culture”¦ Lilo and Stitch”¦ wait no”¦ Moana. Narrator Jon Bailey is hilarious as usual, and since the songs are literally implanted in my head at this point, I’m sure this HT will do me no favors.
Watch as Moana goes from being a strong determined little girl to a strong determined young woman in just 90 minutes. And revel in the film that finally broke all the Disney cliches”¦ by kinda sorta following them, all the while being all meta and self referential about it. We’re looking at you funny chicken sidekick, and Grandma Mufasa! And check out her water powers, which are basically the same as Elsa’s ice powers in Frozen. There’s also Maui; the gigantic, tattooed, charismatic demi-god”¦ you know, basically just The Rock.
But who cares about trivialities, the guy from Hamilton did the soundtrack!!! So let’s rock out with the part of Honest Disney Trailers everyone loves, the song parodies! The “Uh-oh We’re Making The Rock Sing Song,” which I kinda think is unfair because “You’re Welcome” is so goddamn catchy. Then we have the “Let it Go-ish Song” and in this context, yeah, it does sort of sound like it”¦ but damn you Honest Trailers, I love Moana!
Starring: Nemo, David Glowie, Shy Guys, and Wow Troy Polamalu Really Let Himself Go”¦ new title: Pacific Swim. Bailey ends by teaming Rapunzel, Elsa, and Moana to begin a Disney Princess Avengers squad. Well I guess they do own all the intellectual property huh. Screen Junkies has just under 6-million YouTube subscribers and release new Honest Trailers every Tuesday.
