SXSW 2017: ‘Game Of Thrones’ Showrunners Want To Do An Episode Of ‘Rick and Morty’

At the Game of Thrones panel at this year’s SXSW, showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff said they’d love to do an episode of Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty once the HBO series concludes.

The response came from a question about what the pair’s plans are beyond the show. As a bit of a surprise, neither hesitated to respond in agreement about collaborating on the sleeper hit cartoon series co-created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. There was, however, one big catch…

“Well, [we’d like to do an episode of] Rick and Morty, but only if it was good,” Benioff said. Toward the end of the panel, the pair admitted: “We don’t want to ruin Rick and Morty. We’re not funny enough.”

Personally, I don’t agree. In riffing off of otherwise serious fan questions about GoT‘s potential for future spinoffs (which Geeks of Doom has documented in the past), they first responded by saying fans can expect a “Hodor multi-cam sitcom prequel.”

Regardless, the exchange reveals that both Benioff and Weiss are big fans of the series. And since both Roiland and Harmond are (in my humble opinion) able to make pretty much anything funny, Geeks of Doom has reached out to them for a comment. We’ll update the article if we hear back, but only after screaming “Wubba Lubba Dub-Dub!” a couple times.

Whether we get to see this series — which would surely be an instant comedic classic — or not, the writing team said they plan on continue working together in the future once Game of Thrones does air its final episode.
