In addition to the four new Avatar sequel release dates, 20th Century Fox has also revealed the release dates for three X-Men films, The Predator, a based on a true story film from Steven Spielberg film, and so much more. Check out when they all hit theaters below.
20th Century Fox made the announcement earlier this weekend.
The studio will release New Mutants on April 13, 2018. We still don’t know much about the Josh Boone-directed superhero flick other than it will center on new mutants who have just graduated from Xavier’s school. Next up, Deadpool 2. The first film exceeded all expectations, especially when it was released in February 2016 – a month where theatrical releases practically go to die. Now it’s going to the big show as it will be released on June 1, 2018. The sequel is sandwiched in between Disney/Lucasfilm’s Han Solo spinoff (which has yet to receive a title) and Warner Bros. ‘ Ocean’s 8, Ocean 11‘s all-female-led spinoff.
While the X-Men saga films have been a mixed bag of results, X-Men: Dark Phoenix will the first of the franchise to be released outside of the summer blockbuster season. It will hit theaters on November 2, 2018. Simon Kinberg, a long-time producer of these X-Men films, has been one of the frontrunners to direct the sequel. As the title suggests, it would center on the Dark Phoenix story arc made famous in the comics. But it also wouldn’t be the first time that we’ve seen the arc play out in theaters. X-Men: The Last Stand did a very loose adaptation of Dark Phoenix, and many felt it was a huge disappointment.
Fox also has a lot of confidence in The Predators as it’s pushing it back from its February 9, 2018, release all the way to August 3, 2018. While we’ve seen R-rated films have success in February, an August release isn’t so bad; in fact, it’s pretty great as some films have found success being released on the tail end of summer.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure will take over the February 9, 2018 slot. This after Dylan O’Brien suffered a horrific stunt accident that forced production to shut down. But with a release date already set, it probably means that production has resumed.
Moving on to some possible Oscar-award nominated films. Fox has scheduled the remake of Murder on the Orient Express for a November 10, 2017, release. The film features an all-star cast that includes the likes of Daisy Ridley, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Josh Gad, Leslie Odom Jr., Lucy Boynton, and more.
The Post, directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep will hit theaters on December 22, 2017. The film will center on the true story of the Pentagon Papers. In 1971, Daniel Ellsberg released classified military documents to the New York Times revealing history of the United States’ political-military involvement in Vietnam from 1945 to 1967. These documents uncovered the truths about the Vietnam War, including how the Johnson administration lied to the public and Congress.
Finally, the studio has given Kingsman: The Golden Circle a new release date. It will hit theaters on September 22, 2017.
