‘Logan Lucky’ Trailer: Steven Soderbergh Brings Back The Scrappy Heist
  |  @   |

It’s a little bit of a meta opening, but when a trailer introduces itself by saying “from the director of Ocean’s 11, Ocean’s 12, and Ocean’s 13,” you know you’re pretty much in for a Steven Soderbergh-esque caper. Logan Lucky is Soderbergh’s latest directorial effort that drew him out of retirement.

In the film, two misfit brothers (Channing Tatum and Adam Driver) and incarcerated explosives expert (Daniel Craig) plot the ultimate scheme to rob Charlotte Motor Speedway. Only thing is, the group may not be capable of pulling off this heist. Unless they have a little luck on their side. Check out the trailer for Logan Lucky below.

If there had to be a film that brought Soderbergh out of retirement, I’m glad it’s Logan Lucky. It is exactly the thing the summer needs considering it’s usually filled with all sorts of generic blockbusters.

While the characters may seem similar to the Ocean’s films, they lack the tools and technology necessary to pull off the heist. But that doesn’t stop them from trying. And that is probably what makes this Logan Lucky so appealing. It is something different from the Ocean’s trilogy. There are brand new characters. And likable ones at that. Hopefully, there’s going to be more trailers because the film looks like a lot of fun.

Logan Lucky also stars Riley Keough, Seth MacFarlane, Katie Holmes, Hilary Swank, Katherine Waterston, Sebastian Stan, and Jesco White.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

The Logans are a hardscrabble family from the hills of West Virginia, and their clan has been famous for its bad luck for nearly 90 years. But the conniving Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum) decides its time to turn the family’s luck around, and with a little help from his friends, the Redneck Robbers, he plans to steal $14 million from the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Logan Lucky opens in theaters August 18.
