Daniel Craig Will Be James Bond For A Fifth and Final Time

While Eon Productions was in no hurry to announce James Bond 25, they didn’t exactly lock star Daniel Craig down for the project. Various reports said that the actor was signed on, but there was no actual confirmation that he would be returning.

However, while stopping by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert for an interview, the actor took the time to say that he would be returning as James Bond for a fifth and final time. More on the story and a video of Craig on The Late Show below.

Of course, it’s still way too early to talk about what the film could be about, but Craig did mention that he wanted to go out with a bang. Perhaps this is referring to how Spectre was poorly received by critics and audiences alike. So you can’t blame the guy for wanting to go out on his own terms. “I think this is it. I just want to go out on a high note,” he added. “I can’t wait.”

This gives Eon the chance to close some loose ends made in the four films that Craig has appeared in. There’s no word yet if Eon will continue to tell Bond’s story even after Craig’s departure or if they will reboot it in Bond 26. It’s not clear what Eon would have done had Craig not signed on, but at least we can finally put the “will Daniel Craig return story” to rest.

Yann Demange, Denis Villeneuve, and David Mackenzie are among some of the directors being looked at to helm Bond 25, with Demange being the frontrunner. But we will keep you posted on who ends up with the gig. Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson will produce.

But there’s also another hurdle that Eon has to get over. The film still has no distributor. Sony’s deal to distribute the Bond films for Eon had expired after Spectre. There’s word that Warner Bros. is one of the leading contenders to distribute the sequel, but the status of reaching that deal is very much unclear.

Craig is the seventh actor to portray the suave and sophisticated MI6 spy. He’s appeared in Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre.

Bond 25 is currently scheduled for a November 25, 2018, release.
