‘Transformers’ Movie Franchise Could Be Headed For A Reboot
  |  @   |

Never underestimate how convoluted the entire Transformers Cinematic Universe is. With each new installment, the franchise finds a way to disregard all of its rules and canon. Nothing makes sense. The only consistent thing about it was the Bayhem — explosions, sexual exploitation, racism, and the usual nonsensical material that comes with a Michael Bay film. But now that the director is out, we can hopefully look forward to something new for Transformers.

Especially when Paramount brought in a group of writers to pen up to 12 possible Transformers films. It’s still unclear if that is the number the studio is targeting. But if it is, then a possible reboot could just be the thing to help the franchise achieve Marvel Studios-like success. And that reboot may be in the works. More on the story below.

According to new reports, Hasbro brought up the idea of resetting the current franchise, starting with the Bumblebee movie, starring Hailee Steinfeld.

The story comes to us via Collider, who says Hasbro specifically mentioned that “a new team at Paramount will reset the Transformers Live-Action Movie Series following the release of Bumblebee: The Movie.” That film is set for a December 6, 2018, release. There was a Transformers 6 film scheduled, but Paramount has apparently removed that from the release calendar. Meaning that there could be no Transformers on the big screen for the very foreseeable future.

It would be interesting to see if the Bumblebee movie will be an inert spinoff or something that could launch the franchise into a new direction. It could very well be the latter, with Hasbro and Paramount seeing how well the spinoff does and announcing more titles in light of its success. But that is just pure speculation.

However, Travis Knight, who is directing the Bumblebee movie, is the head at LAIKA, the stop-motion animation studio. He could very well be the driving force to steer Transformers into a new direction. And that’s the one thing the franchise is missing. Someone in the leadership role. Again, that is just speculation on my part. But if the film succeeds, you can be sure that he will be having a huge role in shaping the Transformers Cinematic Universe.

That could be the change of pace the franchise so desperately needs. Under Bay’s direction, Transformers was running out of gas. They were simply rehashes of the previous film. So if Bumblebee proves to be fresh, we could see even more from what came out of the writers room that was created back in 2015.

We’ll just have to wait and see.
