Video: First Look At Sci-Fi Horror Series ‘Nightflyers’ From ‘Game Of Thrones’ Author George R.R. Martin
  |  @   |

We’re getting our first look at Nightflyers, an upcoming series based on the 1980 novella of the same name written by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.

The show, which is described by Martin in the video as “a haunted house story on a starship” and “Psycho in space,” is a fusion of science fiction, horror, and psychological thriller. It follows a team of scientists on a mission to find life in the universe, and stars Eoin Macken, Gretchen Mol, David Ajala, Sam Strike, Maya Eshet, Angus Sampson, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Brían F. O’Byrne.

Here’s a little more info from SYFY Wire:

This Alien-esque, space-set, futuristic nightmare follows a scientific crew that, of course, meets an alien species. It doesn’t necessarily go great from there. The E.T.s aren’t really to blame, though. It’s more about the increasingly tense and complex relationships between the crew members, closer to something like Sunshine.

That crew – composed of leader/astrophysicist Karl D’Branin (Eoin Bracken), pilot Roy Eris (David Ajala), telepath Thale (Sam Strike), and psychiatrist Dr. Agatha Matheson (Gretchen Mol) – has a lot of distrustful elements built in, leading to psychics being used and abused by those around them. That means the protection of or prejudice towards Thale will be of utmost importance – especially when they’re all trapped together.

Martin’s novella was adapted once before this as well, in the 1987 movie of the same name.

Nightflyers is set to premiere on SYFY this fall.
