‘Indiana Jones 5’ To Bring Back Global Feel
  |  @   |

It looks like we will be seeing the return of a globe-trotting Indiana Jones in the untitled Indiana Jones 5. With Kingdom of the Crystal Skull shot entirely in the U.S., the untitled fifth installment of the franchise will see the title character tour the globe once more.

Where exactly remains unclear. Additionally, it looks like producer Frank Marshall will be working with people who he trusts to pitch him ideas. More on the report below.

Marshall spoke to ComingSoon.net, and opened up about Indiana Jones 5, which would be the first Indy film to happen at Lucasfilm without George Lucas. While the parties involved have moved on, Marshall says Indy 5 will “be a little different, because the ideas are coming from a different place now.”

And with Lucasfilm now steering their attention away from releasing a Star Wars film every year, the plan is to expand on and develop other films like Indiana Jones. Of course, that will involve Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm and Marshall’s wife. Here’s what he had to say about getting the chance to work with Kennedy on something other than a Star Wars film:

“I hope so. (laughs) Better for me. I don’t know, to be honest. They’re in their own little world over there, obviously shooting Episode IX right now, so we don’t talk about it much. I’m just here trying to get the writers room together.”

That writers room may have been a slip of the tongue, as the producer went on to clarify:

“Well, I dunno if you’d call it a writers room, but a lot of people that we trust pitch ideas and things. Gathering info.”

Marshall did confirm that Jon Kasdan, son of Lawrence Kasdan (who wrote the original, Raiders of the Lost Ark, as well as multiple Star Wars titles including co-writing Solo with Jon), would be the lead writer on Indiana Jones 5, as was reported earlier this year. He recently assumed the position when he replaced David Koepp, a frequent Steven Spielberg collaborator. Koepp also wrote Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

So as you can see, Disney and Lucasfilm may be returning to what made the Indiana Jones films great by hiring new writers and replacing some of the old guard. Of course, they are keeping some familiar things like Harrison Ford, who will be reprising his character, and Spielberg, who will be directing the film as soon as he’s done with his vision for West Side Story.

We will keep you posted on any new developments for the film. Click the source link below for the full interview with Marshall.

Indiana Jones 5 will hit theaters on July 9, 2021.
