Disney+’s Loki Series Hires ‘Rick and Morty’ Writer As Showrunner
  |  @   |

Disney’s shows for its upcoming streaming service, Disney+, are already shaping up to be something worth watching, especially on the Marvel front.

And now one writer behind a very hilarious show is being brought in to act as showrunner for one of them. According to various reports, Rick and Morty writer Michael Waldron will be the showrunner for the untitled Loki show. A nice pairing when you think about it considering all of the humor the Adult Swim show is known for and Loki’s penchant for mischief. More on the report below.

Though a relative unknown, Waldron is perhaps best known for writing and producing the upcoming season of Rick and Morty. Other credits include Florida Man with Steven Soderbergh for Paramount Network, and writing the 2018 Black List’s The Worst Guy of All Time (and the Girl Who Came to Kill Him), a film that is described as a sci-fi rom-com.

The Hollywood Reporter says Waldron will write and direct the pilot. According to their sources, the show will follow the shape-shifting trickster throughout human history as an unlikely influence on historical events.

Disney would not confirm. But if true, it seems to embrace Loki’s penchant for causing all sorts of mischief. And the fact that Waldron is penning the script and is acting as showrunner shows that the show will embrace some of the similarities that the untitled Loki show and Rick and Morty may have, which includes time-travel and inter-dimensional hopping. It will especially be fun to see if Loki had any previously unseen effect on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Tom Hiddleston is expected to reprise his role as Loki, a character who has appeared in three Thor films and two Avengers films. There are rumors that he could play a narrator, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Let’s not forget that there are other Marvel shows to consider. We know that Scarlet Witch and Vision will have their own show. Bucky and Sam Wilson will also have their own show as well. Captain Marvel‘s Jac Schaeffer will be responsible for the former, with Empire‘s Malcolm Spellman writing the latter. None of the shows, including the untitled Loki show, have release dates. However, we will keep you up to date should they be announced.
