‘The Lion King’ Teaser and New Poster Has So Much Pride
  |  @   |

Those watching the Oscars last night might have caught a glimpse of Jon Favreau‘s The Lion King. The film is a CGI remake of the 1994 Academy Award-winning animated film that centered on a young lion cub being groomed to be king of Pride Rock. This new look may feel like familiar territory considering a lot of the footage in it was already seen in the initial teaser trailer. However, it all seems like its setting up for something bigger. And not just a brand new poster. Check out the teaser and the new poster here below.

There is plenty of time before we see this new version of Pride Rock and the surrounding savannah as the new film comes out in July. So maybe having a slightly slimmed down reedit of the teaser trailer isn’t so bad. We still get a very good look at how far the photorealistic technology has come since Favreau released his live-action The Jungle Book.

The iconic James Earl Jones returns to voice Mufasa, the king of Pride Rock and father to Simba (Donald Glover). Beyonce Knowles-Carter will voice Nala. Other voice talents include Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner as Pumbaa and Timon, respectively, with John Kani as Rafiki, John Oliver as Zazu, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar. New characters include Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, Florence Kasumba as Shenzi, Eric Andre as Azizi, and Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari.

Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice, and Hans Zimmer will all be returning to create a new score and new songs for the film. Additionally, there will be a new end-credits song for the film written by Rice and performed by Beyonce.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother””and former heir to the throne””has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.

And here’s a look at the film’s new poster, which may have you doing a double take if you recall what the animated poster looks like. Which may have been the goal all along.

The Lion King opens in theaters on July 19, 2019.
