Every generation has a legend. And all great sagas must come to an end. Such is the fate for Star Wars, who has been telling us the story of the Skywalker story since 1977. Over forty years later, Disney and Lucasfilm will bring that saga to a close with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. During Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, the cast and crew took to the stage to give us our first look at the upcoming and highly anticipated final chapter of the Skywalker story. Check it out below.

We won’t bother you too much with the details, but Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) prolonged fight with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is coming to its end. In that desert opening scene, where we see Rey breathing heavily and looking towards the distant horizon, we overhear Mark Hamill‘s Luke Skywalker say “A thousand generations live within you now.” The camera then closes in on her hand holding a lightsaber, with the sounds of a TIE Fighter coming in towards her. “But this is your fight,” Skywalker continues.

The camera then gives a very sweeping shot of the desert, which then gradually picks up speed as to keep up with the pace of the TIE fighter, which is revealed to be Kylo Ren’s ship, but we never see the pilot, only hands increasing its speed. Rey then ignites her lightsaber and starts to run away from it, so as to anticipate its arrival. As the TIE fighter closes in on her, she does a backwards flip and the scene then cuts to black.

Shots of a cold dark mountain can be seen, which is then followed by Kylo Ren, mowing down soldiers in a red tinted forest. We then see the repair of his helmet. Shots of Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac) standing on some rock formations, followed by BB-8 and the newest droid Dio, tilting their heads.

The next couple of scenes show Chewie (Joonas Suotamo) and Lando (Billy Dee Willams) flying the Millenium Falcon through lightspeed. Lando gives his signature laugh.

“We’ll always be with you,” Skywalker says, as we see Rey and General Leia (Carrie Fisher) embrace each other, with Rey shedding one tear. The trailer then transitions to a group shot of Chewie, Rey, Poe, Finn, C-3PO, and BB-8 looking over what looks like the remains of a Death Star. “No one is ever really gone,” the voiceover continues.

The scene then cuts to black once before, but not before ending with a shadowy evil laugh that sounds sinisterly like Darth Sidious aka Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid).
