Kevin Smith Reveals Matt Damon’s Role In ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’
  |  @   |

The big news after this month’s release of the first trailer for Kevin Smith‘s Jay and Silent Bob Reboot was that A-lister Ben Affleck would return to the writer/director’s View Askewniverse. Smith later posted to his social media accounts how he and Affleck, after years of estrangement, had finally reunited.

The first trailer contains plenty of celebrity cameos, including one from Affleck, but it also showed that fellow A-lister and Affleck’s original bestie and frequent co-star Matt Damon would also be back in the fold! Today, Smith posted to his social media accounts about Damon’s role in the new movie.

Per Smith’s post, Damon will return in Reboot as Loki, the fallen angel from the filmmaker’s Dogma (the 1999 film, which co-starred Affleck). The director wrote that Damon’s involvement also allowed him to do “mini-sequels” to all of his View Askew films in the middle of Reboot.

Smith previously revealed that Affleck would return in Reboot as Holden McNeil, the character introduced in 1997’s Chasing Amy who co-created the Bluntman and Chronic comic book, which, in the movie, is based on the Jay and Silent Bob characters. Affleck then reprised that role in 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Smith said that Affleck’s appearance in the upcoming new film allowed him “to make an 8 page sequel” to Chasing Amy in the middle of Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.

Just from the trailer, you know Reboot is going to be a great movie. I’ve been a fan of Smith and of his View Askewniverse since day one, so this is all very exciting. See below for the details about Damon’s return.

thatkevinsmith If you’ve seen the @jayandsilentbob trailer (link in my bio) then you know #mattdamon came back! Matty was part of the fun in #jayandsilentbobstrikeback so when we started #JayAndSilentBobReboot, we reached out to Matt to see if he wanted to return to the scene of the crime. When he confirmed, I started thinking about how to best use good Will Hunting and which role he could play. Then @jenschwalbach suggested “Why don’t you use him as Loki?” I scoffed like a hardcore Kevin Smith fan, replying “I can’t play with Loki. Loki died.” Jen smiled and said “Well it’s a good thing you don’t know the writer, or else you might be able to change your idea.” And just like that, my wife made the movie better. I asked costume designer @ruckusaurus to put together a Loki-looking ensemble, found a church, and broke out my life size Dogma action figure. And with that, I was able to do mini-sequels to *all* my #viewaskew flicks in the middle of #jayandsilentbobreboot! Wanna see how it all comes together? Check out our @fathomevents Sneak Preview screenings on October 15th and 17th or come watch the flick with me and @jaymewes when the @jayandsilentbob Reboot Roadshow hits a theater near you! #KevinSmith #goodwillhunting #90skids #viewaskewniverse
