There’s been plenty of whispers of a new Austin Powers movie over the years, but””despite the fact that it looked like we’d be getting the movies in bulk for years to come much like the Saw and Fast and Furious franchises””they just kind of ended after 2002’s Goldmember.
Yes, it’s been almost a decade since the last installment, but it would appear that the time has come for Austin Powers 4 to become a reality. HitFix is reporting that Mike Myers has officially signed on to return to the role(s) for a fourth time, elevating the project from a rumor (that some wanted to see come true and others very much did not want to see come true) to a reality.
The Gold Box deal of the day today at Amazon is the Austin Powers Collection on DVD for only $15.99 (60% off the list price of $39.98) or Blu-ray for only $32.99 (56% off the list price of $74.98).
Both DVD and Blu-ray sets come with all three Austin Powers movies — Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery; Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me; Austin Powers in Goldmember — all of which star Mike Myers as the title character, a 1960’s British spy who awakens three decades after being cryogenically frozen not realizing that his hipster style went out long ago. In this series of spoofs of 1960’s spy films, Myers also plays several other characters, including Powers’ nemesis, Dr. Evil.
Both DVD and Blu-ray sets, dubbed the Shagadelic Edition Loaded With Extra Mojo, come with the three movies — the DVD version with three separate cases packed in a 3-pack box — and include documentaries; commentaries; deleted and alternate scenes; music videos, and trailers.
What’s more fun than a well-placed cameo? Those brief appearances by a well-known actor or character that has relations to the title their appearing in can really brighten a movie and excite the fans who aren’t expecting them.
In honor of the cameo, I’ve decided to compile a list of cameos that just flat have entertained me over the years. Keep in mind, these aren’t necessarily the best cameos ever done; I know there’s some crazy good ones like the Stooges in It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World and so on. No, these are some of the most amusing cameos that brought a little smile to my (and surely many others) face or made people keel over laughing. Some are just classic and some are complete nostalgia, but one thing is for sure… all are a damn good time.
Oh, and I don’t want to hear anything about Neil Patrick Harris from Harold & Kumar. While hilarious, he was playing himself as a full character. You can’t cameo as one of the main parts in TWO movies, even if you are playing yourself.
In some cases there’s a little video included to remind yourself how good these are, so if you enjoy a good cameo like we do, please continue reading to check out 9 of the Most Entertaining Cameos in Movie History!
Nikki Finke is reporting that she’s been told that Mike Myers has begun writing Austin Powers 4. Of course, rumors of the 4th installment have surfaced and submerged on so many different occasions that just this is not enough for Austin Powers fanatics to celebrate, but it is a step forward. Myers is collaborating on the project with Mike McCullers, who helped with both The Spy Who Shagged Me and Goldmember.
Most of the talks we’ve heard prior to this seemed to point at the movie following the Dr. Evil character and this report is no different. It seems this one would be very personal to Mike Myers and be loosely based on his relationship with his father, translated into the Dr. Evil/Scotty characters.
Nothing is official yet, but apparently New Line is borderline desperate for this one, so they’ll throw a few potato sacks full of money at Mike’s head, he’ll do his song and dance and make them (insert over-used Austin Powers joke here). Ba-zing.
