Marvel Studios’ Black Widow may have been in production for only 30 days, but that stop them from showing off some footage to San Diego Comic-Con attendees today. Scarlett Johansson and director Cate Shortland (Berlin Syndrome, Lore) stopped by the Con to tell everyone there how the production was going, and announced that it would be the first new Marvel film of 2020.

Ever since Scarlett Johansson made her debut as the character in Iron Man 2, fans have been wondering when we would get a Black Widow standalone film.

Well, nearly a decade later, we will finally get to see that happen. After an exhaustive search, Cate Shortland has signed on to direct the standalone film for Marvel Studios. More on the story below.

Things are progressing quickly for the long-awaited Black Widow standalone film. Earlier this year, Marvel Studios brought in Jac Schaeffer (TiMER, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure) to pen the script. This was followed by meetings with Deniz Gamze Erguven (the Turkish movie Mustang), Chloe Zhao (The Rider), and Amma Asante (A United Kingdom) as potential directors.

Now it looks like Marvel has narrowed it down to three. According to new reports, Cate Shortland (Lore, Berlin Syndrome), Maggie Betts (Novitiate), and Asante are the most likely candidates. More on the story below.
