New reports confirm that Black Panther writer and director Ryan Coogler will return for Black Panther 2.
The deal shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to anyone. The first film is one of the highest grossing Marvel Studios films to date, having earned $700 million domestically and more than $1.3 billion worldwide. It’s considered to be a cultural phenomenon with the way it addresses themes of race and identity, while also being a superhero film. And people have caught notice of the impact it has made. So much so that Marvel Studios is also making a huge awards season push for the film. More on the report below.
Space Jam 2 is just one of those films that cannot get out of development hell. The long-awaited follow-up to the Michael Jordan and Looney Tunes basketball mashup will star LeBron James. Beyond that, we don’t know much else about the film, except that it went through a couple of directors before settling on Terence Nance, who directed An Oversimplification of Her Beauty and created the HBO series Random Acts of Flyness, to helm the film.
Now the film has found a big name producer. According to new reports, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler will give an assist. More on the story below.

Black Panther is the 18th Marvel Studios film to be released. Now just a few months after its initial release, it is coming home on Blu-ray and digital.
Director Ryan Coogler presents audiences with a new kind of superhero film. By weaving in social issues – like culture, identity, and representation – that affect us today, he turns what would have been an ordinary comic book movie into an extraordinary crowning achievement. It’s certainly not a risky film, but one that needed to be made. For there is a superhero in everyone, and it’s high time that we get to see more representation on the big screen. The world may be waiting for the release of Avengers: Infinity War, but many are still talking about the worldwide phenomenon known as Black Panther. Marvel Studios’ latest film has broken all kinds of box office records and has grossed over $1.3 billion nearly nine and a half weeks after its release. So, of course, they would greenlight a sequel.
However, Marvel knows that you just don’t dive in head first without a story or someone to direct it. And that’s why the studio isn’t ready to pull the trigger on starting production. While Ryan Coogler is working on other projects, he isn’t officially signed on to direct Black Panther 2, and Marvel doesn’t seem like they are interested in doing one without him. More on the story below.
As Black Panther continues to break box office records, it’s time to think about its home entertainment release. Yes, just a few months after it hit theaters back in February, Marvel Studios’ latest film is already gearing up for a home video release.
Of course, we aren’t just here to talk about the film itself, but what kind of bonus features you can expect to see. And there will be a lot. From the Wakandan women and the actresses who play them to director commentary from Ryan Coogler. There’s also the usual deleted scenes and gag reels, plus some digital exclusives that will make you want to purchase a ticket to travel to the fictional nation of Wakanda. Check out the full details and a home video trailer below.
