The brand new Superboy series continues with this second issue. It picks up right where issue one left off with Superboy and his buddy Simon and Krypto are captured by Poison Ivy in which she offers a team up with Superboy to help her get her powers back. They have to fight their way through an outbreak of trees and vines and flowers that have taken over Smallville. They must find the source of what’s going on in a farmhouse in which a farmer is hooked up to what looks like a bomb about to go off. Can Superboy resist the temptation of Ivy or will he fall under her spell?

Once again Jeff Lemire knocks it out of the park with this series. He really is the perfect writer for this book. Connor Kent is written as a strong hero who also struggles as a high school student and it really fits the character. Poison Ivy is also written well to be very seductive and clever. Superboy’s sidekick, Simon, takes on a Jimmy Olson-like persona and really reminds us of Clark and Jimmy in Metropolis. Even the town of Smallville takes on a character of itself.

Pier Gallo is the best artist for this book drawing the characters perfectly. The way he even draws the town of Smallville really shows how big of a character the setting is. The fights are drawn great and the way Poison Ivy looks in this book rivals that of Batman counterparts. Even Krypto the dog is drawn well with detail showing on him.

All in all, I love this book and this is one of the best new series that DC has put out in a while. I give Superboy #2 a 5 out of 5.
