‘Galaxy Quest’ TV Series Coming To Amazon
  |  @   |

The TV show based on the science fiction comedy cult classic Galaxy Quest has found itself a home. Being backed by Paramount Television since this past April, it’s being reported that a deal has been reached with Amazon Studios, where it’s now in early series development.

The talent behind making the movie—at least behind the camera—are also involved in the TV series. Director Dean Parisot is set to direct at least some of the episodes, and screenwriter Robert Gordon will write the script for the TV show as well. They’ll also be executive producers along with Mark Johnson, who had the same role on the movie, and Melissa Bernstein.

Whether any of the movie’s original cast, which included Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell, Tony Shalhoub, and Daryl Mitchell, is not yet known as it’s still too early for casting and the potential series still has many steps to becoming a reality including getting that all-important pilot episode greenlight and then full series greenlight.

Galaxy Quest follows a group of actors making the convention rounds many years after they were on a very popular sci-fi TV show when an alien race, mistakenly thinking that they actually are the characters from that show, bring them to their ship to help them fight a nasty bunch of aliens who keep attacking them.

This is just another in a long list of TV recent and upcoming TV shows based on movies, including Hannibal, Ash vs. Evil Dead, Minority Report, From Dusk Till Dawn, Bates Motel, Teen Wolf, Rosemary’s Baby, Limitless, Scream, Problem Child, Friday the 13th, and plenty more.

If the Galaxy Quest TV show does get a full series order, where do you want to see them go story wise and would you want to see the original cast return for new adventures or would you prefer some fresh faces?

  1. Given that Daryl Mitchell is paralyzed from the waist down, I would think he probably won’t be cast in the show, but who knows?
