TNT Gives ‘Snowpiercer’ TV Show Full Series Greenlight
  |  @   |

TNT has officially given a full series order to Snowpiercer, a TV show based on the 2013 movie of the same name directed by Bong Joon Ho.

The show has also assembled a full cast, which includes Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Benjamin Haigh, Sasha Frolova, Katie McGuinness, Alison Wright, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand, and Lena Hall.

Like the movie, the show takes place after the planet has turned into a frozen wasteland. It’s set on a massive train, which is always moving and contains the last surviving humans, who deal with social injustice, class warfare, and more.

Of the news, TNT executive vice president of original programming Sarah Aubrey said:

“I’m a personal fan of Bong Joon Ho’s epic film, and jumped at the chance to honor his original vision, yet expand upon the world and characters with a diverse, award-winning cast. Science fiction is the perfect genre to examine issues of race, class, gender and natural resources with thought-provoking and exciting storytelling. Snowpiercer will explore those relevant issues while embarking on a wild, action-filled ride.”

When Connelly joined the cast we got these character descriptions for her and Diggs’ characters:

Connelly is set to play a character named Melanie Cavill. The character is one of the train’s first-class residents and is known as the Voice of the Train, making the daily announcements on the public address system. Most first-class passengers look down on the lower class passengers, but Cavill is described as being “curiously fascinated by them.”

Diggs will play a character named Layton Well, a character described as “a prisoner who becomes a reluctant participant in a struggle that could upend life on the train.”

Acting as writer and showrunner on Snowpiercer is Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Emerald City), and the pilot episode is directed by Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange, Sinister).

No word yet on when we might see the show premiere.
