’10 Cloverfield Lane’ Director Dan Trachtenberg To Helm ‘Uncharted’ Film Adaptation
  |  @   |

It did not take too long for the Uncharted film adaptation to get someone to take over the helm. A new report confirms that 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg has been brought in to direct the planned big-screen adaptation. More on the report here below.

According to Variety, Trachtenberg replaces Shawn Levy, who left the gig back in December due to scheduling conflicts. Sony Pictures, the studio that will produce and distribute the film, says that they had been looking forward to working with Levy since 2016. Deadline adds that Jonathan Rosenberg and Mark Walker are working on a new draft of the screenplay.

Tom Holland is currently tapped to star as Nathan Drake, the lead character in the popular video game franchise about a charismatic treasure hunter who journeys across the world to uncover various historical mysteries. After the success of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Sony had been looking for a way to lock Holland in with another franchise. They had also been trying to get an Uncharted film adaptation off the ground for quite some time. And like all adaptations, the film will take a few creative liberties, like having a younger Nathan Drake as the lead.

It’s not exactly clear when the film could start production, but Sony would like to get things off the ground by the end of this year, preferably after the Spider-Man: Far From Home press tour.

For those who may not be familiar with the Uncharted games, they center on Nathan Drake, a charismatic yet rebellious treasure hunter who journeys across the world to uncover various historical mysteries. Players jump, swim, grab, and move along ledges, climb and swing from ropes, and perform other acrobatic actions that allow them to make their way through the many challenges that Nate will have to face.

Comic book characters like Doc Savage and Tintin, as well as film characters like John McClane, served as the inspiration for Nathan Drake. And throughout the franchise, he is joined by photojournalist Elena Fisher and longtime mentor Victor Sullivan, on a treasure-hunting adventure that resembles Indiana Jones with a very contemporary twist.

Before Trachtenberg stepped in to direct, David O’Russell, Neil Burger, and Seth Gordon were all attached. However, due to a variety of reasons, it never happened. But now it looks like the film is actually going to happen. No word yet on when the film could be released, but we will keep you posted as soon as that news comes in.
