‘The Politician’ Trailer: Ryan Murphy Plays High School Politics The Only Way He Knows How
  |  @   |

Politics can be a mean game no matter how big or small the arena. Take Netflix’s The Politician from Ryan Murphy, who dramatizes the lengths of which a very ambitious high school student (Ben Platt) goes through to run a perfect campaign to become president of the Associated Student Body. Of course, since this is a project from the man who has given us Glee, American Horror Story, and so much more, much of what we will see from the dark comedy will take place in a heightened sense of reality.

However, because we know how ruthless politics can be, there is a certain degree of believability. Check out the trailer here below.

I have to believe that The Politician has a certain level of satire. We’ve seen and heard reports on how playing the game of politics is cutthroat, with managers doing anything to get ahead of the competition. Headlines reveal one thing, leaked videos show another, once put together, we get an idea of how crazy some of these political campaigns can be.

Now that Veep is done, maybe The Politician can be just the show to fill that comedic political show void. We will just have to wait and see.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Payton Hobart (Ben Platt), a wealthy student from Santa Barbara, California, has known since age seven that he’s going to be the President of the United States. But first he’ll have to navigate the most treacherous political landscape of all: Saint Sebastian High School. To get elected Student Body President, secure a spot at Harvard, and stay on his singular path to success, Payton will have to outsmart his ruthless classmates without sacrificing his own morality and carefully crafted image. Full of dark comedy and sly satire, Ryan Murphy’s The Politician offers a rare glimpse into just what it takes to make a politician.

The Politician stars Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, Zoey Deutch, Julia Schlaepfer, Bob Balaban, David Corenswet, Rahne Jones, and Benjamin Barrett, with Bette Midler and Judith Light in guest-starring roles.
