‘King Of The Monsters’ Interview: ‘Godzilla’ Cast Reflects On The Legacy Of The Kaiju
  |  @   |

Godzilla: King of the Monsters could have easily been just another summer blockbuster tentpole film with giant monsters destroying cities. But in reality, there is a lot more nuance to it that. It’s got some grounded depth to it thanks in no small part to the human cast who play a critical role in the highly anticipated sequel.

Geeks of Doom had a chance to join their fellow journalists at the press conference for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, where Millie Bobby Brown, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Thomas Middleditch, Kyle Chandler, Bradley Whitford, and Ken Watanabe talked about what it was like to be a part of a film whose title character has such a longstanding legacy, shooting with something that wasn’t there, and more. Check out what they had to say below.

No matter how many times Godzilla is rebooted, the Kaiju is revered as one of the most iconic cinematic characters in history. And despite his lack of presence in the 2014 westernized telling, his fame remained as powerful as ever. Mostly because Godzilla is much more than a giant reptile destroying cities with his giant footsteps and atomic flames, but he serves as a reminder of the dangers of what could happen should human arrogance transcend nature. It’s a theme that continues to echo in each new telling, no matter the generation.

Now those themes come into the picture once more in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, in which man’s arrogance and inability to comprehend what they are unleashing is a reflection of the times that we live in today. And yet, even with those dark and very human themes, the sequel still remembers that it is a giant monster movie that sees Godzilla clash with rivals and nemeses like Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah.
