This week, the gang at Screen Junkies give La La Land the Honest Trailers treatment, days removed from the hit film’s release on Blu-ray. If you were living under a rock in 2016 and early 2017, La La Land was THE movie; a throwback Hollywood musical, about Hollywood starring two young gorgeous stars, filled with tremendous original songs. It was to movie musicals what Hamilton was to Broadway. The film racked up a ridiculous amount of accolades, including winning 6 of 14 Oscars it was nominated for. Of course, many only remember La La Land for the Oscar it didn’t win; the controversial and embarrassing ending to the Academy Awards when their celebration for Best Picture was interrupted by the realization that they actually LOST to Moonlight. Oscars 2017: A Stream of Consciousness Coverage

The 89th Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, aired live on Sunday night on ABC and it saw its share of upsets and mix-ups. Now that the ceremony is over, here’s a rundown of the evening’s events…

The 89th Annual Academy Awards ceremony was broadcasted live on ABC on Sunday night, February 26, 2017, from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, CA, with Jimmy Kimmel as the host.

Below are a several highlights from this year’s Academy Awards ceremony, some of which have accompanying videos.

The broadcast saw lots of digs at Trump and even more digs at Matt Damon, and while La La Land brought home the most awards, it didn’t bring home the big one… but it almost did!

It’s that time of year again when we all gather around the TV for a 3 – 4.5 hour showcasing of everything great… and maybe not so great about Hollywood. That’s right, it’s the 89th Annual Academy Awards. This year we are celebrating a hugely diverse crowd of nominees… which has NOTHING to do with the controversies of the last two years in which no minority actors were nominated. Below you will find my insta-reviews, blurbs I wrote about each Oscar nominated film immediately after finishing them in the order I watched them, my rankings, and predictions. So let’s get to it…

If there is one thing you can expect from these guild awards, it’s the unexpected. The outcome of these awards, such as the SAG Awards, are oftentimes a precursor to the winners of the Academy Awards. On Saturday, the PGA handed out multiple Screen Actors Guild awards to La La Land, and even the Netflix series Stranger Things earned top honors. But the SAG Awards showed us that even films you never thought could win, can pull off a well-deserved upset. Last night, Hidden Figures, Fences, Moonlight, and Stranger Things earned all kinds of awards, beating out some stiff competition.
