Last year it looked like a TV series adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel RodrÃguez‘s comic book series Locke & Key was finally going to happen, with Hulu ordering a pilot episode and Doctor Strange and Sinister director Scott Derrickson set to helm that episode. Derrickson eventually dropped out due to scheduling issues and IT and Mama director Andy Muschietti stepped in.
For whatever reasons, Hulu made the surprising decision to pass on the series. The second time that a series based on the comic looked like it was happening and then didn’t. The other being on Fox years ago. But thankfully fans didn’t have to wait nearly as long this time for the show to find a new home. It’s been announced that Netflix has picked up the show. And they’re skipping that pesky pilot episode step and jumping straight to a full-series order.

It has been a pleasure to watch Locke & Key blossom over the years. Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez have consistently astounded me and not once managed to disappoint me with this series. So when IDW Publishing decided to compile Locke & Key: Heaven And Earth Deluxe Hardcover Edition, I was understandably excited. There is more than just a few choice bits here, these are some hard to find stories being made available again.
Hulu has officially ordered a pilot episode for a potential new TV series adaptation of the Joe Hill and Gabriel RodrÃguez comic book series Locke & Key. We found out almost a year ago that a new adaptation was being developed, which followed a failed movie adaptation and another TV series attempt at FOX, which got as far as a pilot episode being produced before they decided not to pursue it any further.
This latest attempt to adapt the comic is looking promising so far. It received plenty of interest from multiple networks before Hulu landed it. And not only have they ordered a pilot episode, but LOST and The Strain showrunner Carlton Cuse is set for the same position should it go to series, and they’ve lined up Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson to direct the pilot.
IDW Entertainment has announced that a new TV series is being developed based on Locke & Key, the comic book series of the same name written by Joe Hill and illustrated by Gabriel RodrÃguez.
This isn’t the first time a Locke & Key adaptation has been developed, as fans of the comic are well aware. Both a movie and a TV series adaptations have been in the works in the past handful of years, with the TV series getting as far as a pilot episode actually being produced.
