The first teaser trailer for the Zack Snyder-directed, Christopher Nolan-produced Superman reboot Man of Steel premiered in theaters this week in front of Nolan’s final Bat-film The Dark Knight Rises. Bootleg copies quickly made their way online, but today the trailer has been officially released to the interwebs for your viewing pleasure.

This trailer isn’t as revealing as the footage that played at the movie’s Comic-Con panel this year (check out Stoogeypedia’s coverage of the panel here); new Supes Henry Cavill is all over the preview, fishing and looking mighty scruffy, and Kevin Costner (as Pa Kent) provides narration and can be briefly glimpsed in a photo. We don’t get to see Cavill in full-on Man of Steel mode until the trailer’s (literally) soaring final seconds. Howard Shore’s music from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring provides the soundtrack for this clip.

Tonally the first Man of Steel trailer closely resembles the teaser trailer for Nolan’s first Batman feature Batman Begins. It doesn’t surprise me that the studio is banking on the two films’ shared talent (Begins‘ co-writer David S. Goyer wrote the script and conceived the story for Man of Steel with Nolan) to rub off some of Batman’s blockbuster luck on the Last Son of Krypton, who hasn’t had a bonafide theatrical smash since 1981’s Superman II.

Man of Steel also stars Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, and Russell Crowe as Supes’ Kryptonian papa Jor-El. The film opens on June 14, 2013.
