‘Eagle Eye’ Director D.J. Caruso In Talks For ‘G.I. Joe 3’
  |  @   |

Eagle Eye director D.J. Caruso is in talks to direct G.I. Joe 3, according to THR.

Caruso would take the helm from Jon M. Chu, who directed the previous Joe film, 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and had been expected to return for this third installment, but he eventually moved on to go work on a live-action Jem and the Holograms movie.

Over a year after Paramount greenlit a third Joe film in early 2013, it was revealed that the story, from a script by Jonathan Lemkin, would center more on Dwayne Johnson‘s character, Roadblock. Caruso and Johnson will reportedly need to meet privately before the deal is sealed. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is back producing, along with Hasbro’s Brian Goldner.

Aside from Johnson, there’s no word yet on what other stars will return to Hasbro and Paramount’s lucrative live-action film franchise, which began with 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and continued in 2013 with G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Channing Tatum headlined both features, with Christopher Eccleston, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Sienna Miller appearing in the first installment, and Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, and Adrianne Palicki starring in the sequel.

Caruso directed the 2004 psychological thriller Taking Lives, starring Angelina Jolie, Ethan Hawke, and Kiefer Sutherland, and then went on two helm two Steven Spielberg-produced box office hits starring Shia LaBeouf — 2007’s Disturbia and 2008’s Eagle Eye. The director, who also did 2011’s I Am Number Four, just finished work on The Disappointments Room, a supernatural thriller starring Kate Beckinsale, and is reportedly still attached to do Selling Time with star Will Smith.
