Michael Chabon, Brian K. Vaughan Join Hasbro Cinematic Universe Writer’s Room
  |

Last December, Paramount Pictures announced the development of a shared cinematic universe based on their Hasbro properties – including G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand), Micronauts, Visionairies, and ROM – similar to the one they are currently working on for their extremely lucrative Transformers franchise. The next logical step was to assemble a team of creative samurai to help them foster Hollywood’s latest attempt to one-up Marvel to the silver screen.

The studio just announced that they have put together a jaw-dropping writers’ room that includes Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon (The Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, Wonder Boys) and Eisner Award-winning comic book writer Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Saga).

  |  @   |

Everyone has or wants their very own shared universe these days, trying to mimic the success that Marvel has had. But if Paramount Pictures has their way, they’ll have at least two shared universes in the coming years.

We already know that, after four movies directed by Michael Bay and a fifth on the way, Paramount is developing a Transformers shared universe with a large team of writers and plans for spinoffs, prequels, and so on. Now comes word that Paramount is developing yet another shared universe, this time bringing together five other Hasbro properties including G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand), Micronauts, Visionairies, and ROM.

Snake Eyes: Agent of Cobra #5 is stunning. That’s the good news. The bad news is, that’s pretty much all I can say about it without spoiling anything. Seriously, this is one of the hardest reviews I’ve ever had to writer. Every page of this book could be considered a spoiler. But, I’ll do my best.

There’s a reason that Mike Costa writes a lot of G.I. Joe comics. He’s really really good at it. So, if you’ve been keeping up on the title (which you REALLY should be), you know that Jinx and Billy are on the run from somebody’s who’s trying to kill them. This issue, we find out why and the answer will shock you and at the same time, it’s just flat out brilliant. PLUS….OK, this is impossible to keep up with at this point.

In G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes, Agent of Cobra #3 we get more kick butt action than you could ask for! G.I. Joe #7 continues the story of Cobra versus a group of renegades with what’s left of the G.I. Joe team literally caught in the middle. This book is way more than “good guys vs. bad guys,” it’s almost a political thriller mashed-up with an action movie. If you’re looking for the colorful garb of the Joes or Cobras, you won’t find any of that here.
