  |  @   |

Following the release of the nominees for the 2018 Writers Guild Of America Awards, come the nominations for the 2018 Producers Guild Awards. The Big Sick, The Shape Of Water, Get Out, The Post, and Lady Bird are among the biggest names to earn nods, as well as some awards favorites like I, Tonya, Lady Bird, Call Me By Your Name, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

However, films like Phantom Thread, The Florida Project, and Logan appear to have been snubbed. But Wonder Woman is continuing to prove that well-crafted comic book films can also be award-contending films. Check out the full list of nominees here below.

2018 WGA Awards: ‘Logan,’ ‘The Big Sick,’ ‘Get Out,’ and ‘Molly’s Game’ Nominated
  |  @   |

As with all Guilds and Societies in the film industry, the nominations are an indicator of which films are likely to get Academy Award nominations. Get Out, The Shape of Water, Call Me by Your Name, Lady Bird, and The Disaster Artist are among the films that are getting recognition for their performances, writing, and production. All are likely to get more nominations as we get closer to the Academy Awards announcing their own nominations.

Now the nominations for the 2018 WGA Awards have been announced, and they include a couple of surprises. This year, nominations went to films like The Big Sick, Get Out, and The Shape of Water for original screenplay, while Logan, The Disaster Artist, and Molly’s Game get nominated for adapted screenplay. Check out the full list of nominations below.

Mike Lee’s Top 10 Favorite Movies Of 2017
  |  @   |

To say that 2017 was an incredible year for films would be a vast understatement. The year was full of extraordinary films ranging from the typical blockbuster tentpoles like Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Wonder Woman to the indie darlings like The Big Sick and Lady Bird. And the best thing about it, a lot of these movies come from first-time directors, women, and veterans like Jordan Peele, Patty Jenkins, Greta Gerwig, and Rian Johnson. It’s not easy to see all of the films that are released within the one calendar year, but I make sure I damn well try to see as much as I can, and 2017 was no different. I went out to see over 100 films, and to narrow it down to 10 best within the field of exceptional titles that were released was hard. While best is subjective, I tried to narrow it down to the 10 films that meant the most to me that I enjoyed thoroughly.

So, you’ll find the 10 of my favorite movies of 2017 that I could not stop thinking about, along with a few honorable mentions. Check them all out here below.

2018 SAG Award Nominees Include ‘The Shape Of Water,’ ‘The Big Sick,’ ‘Baby Driver’
  |  @   |

The SAG Awards honor and recognize the best the performances of the year, and are often seen as an early indicator of who will win the Academy Awards for Best Actor and Actress, and Best Supporting Actor and Actress. Basically, each guild has their own awards ceremony to honor those within the industry and guild. And now that awards season is in full swing we are about to get to see more and more names being nominated for their work.

Following yesterday’s Golden Globe nominees, comes the SAG nominations. And what you will see is a strange disparity between the two as The Shape of Water got shut out of the Best Ensemble, while The Big Sick got recognized for Best Supporting Actress and Best Ensemble. Check out the nominations below.

Best Movies Of 2017 … So Far — Three D’s Picks
  |

We are more than half way through the year and we haven’t been exposed to many great films. Naturally, at this point of the year, there may have been a handful of pictures that would have had a profound influence on its viewers initially. One or two have had such an impact (A Ghost Story and Wind River), while others could replicate that same feeling with multiple viewings (the majority of the films on this list). But the majority of the year’s pickings are lacking distinction. We’ll be looking forward to the next few months. Until then, here are my picks for the best movies of 2017 so far.
