The WGA Awards is a big win for Jordan Peele‘s Get Out. The first film for the new director has been making waves this award season, having earned nominations from the DGA, PGA, and SAG, plus the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. Now, Peele has been honored with a Writer’s Guild award for Original Screenplay for his screenplay for Get Out.
Meanwhile, Call Me By Your Name also earned top honors for Best Adaptive Screenplay, while The Handmaiden’s Tale, Big Little Lies, and Veep took home TV awards. Check out more about the winners here below.
Now that the Academy Award nominations have been announced, it’s time to take a look at some of the biggest surprises and of course the biggest snubs for this year’s Oscars. The Shape Of Water led the pack with 13 Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. Dunkirk got eight, and while a lot of it was on the technical aspects of the film, it did help Christopher Nolan score his first nomination for Best Director. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri came behind with 7, including Best Actress and two for Best Supporting Actor. So you get the gist.
But there were some things that just got flat-out snubbed, along with a few surprises as well. Check out some of these here below…
Following the release of the nominees for the 2018 Writers Guild Of America Awards, come the nominations for the 2018 Producers Guild Awards. The Big Sick, The Shape Of Water, Get Out, The Post, and Lady Bird are among the biggest names to earn nods, as well as some awards favorites like I, Tonya, Lady Bird, Call Me By Your Name, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
However, films like Phantom Thread, The Florida Project, and Logan appear to have been snubbed. But Wonder Woman is continuing to prove that well-crafted comic book films can also be award-contending films. Check out the full list of nominees here below.
As with all Guilds and Societies in the film industry, the nominations are an indicator of which films are likely to get Academy Award nominations. Get Out, The Shape of Water, Call Me by Your Name, Lady Bird, and The Disaster Artist are among the films that are getting recognition for their performances, writing, and production. All are likely to get more nominations as we get closer to the Academy Awards announcing their own nominations.
Now the nominations for the 2018 WGA Awards have been announced, and they include a couple of surprises.
