Another incredible looking side-scroller video game is on the way titled Little Nightmares.
The game is a horror title, in which you play as a young girl named Six. You’ll navigate your way through the terrifying dark world known as “The Maw,” having to use your wits and bravery to survive.
The game was recently in attendance at Gamescom 2016, and some gameplay demos showing off what the game looks like have since been uploaded. A trailer titled “Deep Below the Waves” was also released recently. You can watch these, and read more about the game and some of the characters below.
Game Info
CHILD’S PLAY
Reconnect with your inner child, and unleash your imagination to stay out of harm’s way. In this oversized world you must be smart, resourceful and ready for anything, for even the smallest doubt can lead to a fatal misstep.
GRIM UNIVERSE
Confront your childhood fears in this darkly whimsical tale of Six and The Maw. Trapped in this grim world with nothing but her wits and a lighter, Six must find light in the darkness and strength in her weakness if she is to survive.
THE DISTURBING DOLLHOUSE
Explore Six’s world, a disturbingly charming dollhouse that is both a prison and a playground. Part dream, part nightmare, every step through The Maw feels like a leap, and every shadow a vast darkness!
Characters
SIX
A HUNGRY CHILD
Trapped in the darkest depths of The Maw, starving and alone, Six’s world is one filled with danger. Most children would have already given up, but Six is different. She’s smart, and tough, and has a lovely yellow raincoat. She belongs elsewhere.
NOMES
PLAYFUL ODDITIES
Unpredictability can be found throughout The Maw, and so can The Nomes. Though experience has taught them to be skittish, some still try to make friends with strangers. These Nomes rarely survive.
THE TWIN CHEFS
A PAIR OF BRUTES
With a love of violence and a feeling for meat, the twins were born to be chefs. As they shuffle across the cold floor, chopping, mincing, preparing the feast, the Twin Chefs sense something that makes their skin itch. A dirty, unwelcome presence. Vermin will not be tolerated in the kitchen.
More info on the game and other characters is coming in the future, and can be found at the official website.
Almost everything about Little Nightmares looks incredible. I’m very excited to check it out. The only thing I find myself wishing was different is when an enemy like the chef catches you. It’s scary at first, sure. But when he catches you nothing happens. It just cuts to black and you start over from your last checkpoint. For me, this negates all of the fear of being caught, because I know nothing happens. If the chef were to, say, throw me in a pot or eat me when caught, then trying to avoid capture becomes far more nerve-wracking. A release is scheduled for the spring of 2017, so hopefully this will be tweaked before it comes out.
NOTE: The gameplay demo is someone playing the game for the first time, so there are mistakes. That’s why I’m using it, because I like to see someone playing for the first time, mistakes and all. Plus, it shows what I was talking about with the chef.
