The GoD List: Comics For July 25, 2012
  |

Each and every week “Heel Heat!” MK2Fac3 and “Babyface Pop!” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of July 25, 2012. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

I’ve intentionally taken about a week off from writing for the site, with good reason. The shooting in Aurora, CO, has affected me in a way that I have a very hard time expressing. The simple fact is that a completely insane and terrible person decided that he would murder a bunch of people for no reason. In my opinion, this person doesn’t have a name. He shouldn’t be given a chance to be known by anyone and his name shouldn’t be present on the lips of anyone. The majority of us who write for this site and plenty of those of us who read this site were present at midnight screenings across the country. This could have happened to any one of us, but it didn’t. It happened to a group of people who are very similar to us, and they should be remembered. They should be honored, and I’ve been trying to get an idea to honor these people, but nothing I could think of would be enough. So, if you don’t mind, I’d like to list their names so that we don’t forget. They’re the people who we should remember, and they’re the people we should be talking about, so to Jessica Ghawi, Matt McQuinn, Micayla Medek, John Larimer, Alex Sullivan, Alex Teves, Jonathan Blunk, Jesse Childress, AJ Boik, Rebecca Ann Wingo, Gordon W. Cowden, and Veronica Moser-Sullivan, we know who you are, we care about who you are, and we won’t forget you.

Now back to your regularly scheduled The GoD List….

Comics rule everything around me. So, in believing in the mantra of C.R.E.A.M., it is my pleasure to tell you about a vast array of new comic books that are coming out this week. There are a wealth of new creator owned books coming out from Image, while DC Comics guides into the Night of the Owls. Meanwhile, behind the facade of an innocent looking bookstore, your local comic shop lets Marvel showcase the latest installment of their comic about heroes fighting each other, while Dark Horse collects some shorts from Dark Horse Presents and Valiant returns! Yes, comics, indeed, rule everything around me. Hence, we offer upon you the readers, The GoD List.

Comics You Should Be Reading: The Shade by James Robinson
  |

There are a great deal of comic books that are released on a monthly basis, so many in fact that some of the best of the lot can fall through the cracks of hardcore comic book fans’ pull lists because quite frankly, you can’t buy everything. So, it’s working under that assumption, as well as weekly beatings from my editor, that I will begin proving you with a somewhat consistent installment of Comics You Should Be Reading. And when I think of a comic that everyone should absolutely be reading, none comes to mind quicker right now than that of The Shade by James Robinson.

The September Relaunch of the entire line of comics from DC Comics caused a huge commotion. Fans were notified that the publishing company would be throwing out all of its continuity, which ended up being more selective continuity than anything else, and while that shocked many of its readership, it provided a whole new landscape of creative possibilities for a wealth of brilliant minds. Fifty-two titles were announced initially, and then came the announcement of a handful of mini-series. Enter The Shade.

DC Comics Introduces National Comics To Debut In July
  |

DC Comics announced on Monday that it would be introducing a new done-in-one brand named National Comics to explore single characters within the DC universe.

This new series of one shots will focus on four announced characters that exist within the “New 52” universe, but do not have a complete home or place, so far. The titles announced are Eternity, Madame X, Rose and Thorn, and Looker. Each comic centers around previously explored characters in the old, even pre-Crisis DC Universe. Which makes all of this very interesting. We’ll take a look at the idea of National Comics as a brand after we take a look at each series and the creators that are involved. Ready to go?
