Keeping with the video game adaptations trend, news has come out regarding a very independent film version of the wildly popular game series, Myst.
Filmmakers Patrick McIntire and Adrian Vanderbosch have spent the past four years getting this project moving, including a whole lot of persuading to Rand Miller, who created Myst. They now have a website going which basically will keep fans up to date on all of the goings on every day; head over to the Myst Motion Picture page if you’re a salivating fan who wants to stay right on track with this project!
The movie will not be a true adaptation of the games, though — it will be based on three novels about the world, namely The Book of Ti’ana. The story looks at an impressive civilization that has the ability to create and travel to many different worlds and the insertion of an outside element in the form of Anna, who one day shows up in the city and throws off the tight that is how they do things and illuminates some unseen issues.
No details on cast or release dates yet!
Hunh! Intriguing!
…thank god Uwe Boll isn’t making it.

Isn’t there already a series based on Myst? It’s called Lost …

Erm, no, Lost is about people lost on an island where about half of the people die for seemingly no reason.
Myst is it’s own series, ain’t two ways about it.

Actually, psmail isn’t too far off. I’ve seen MANY parallels between Lost and the Myst series. Just to name a few:
The Black Rock in Lost = Stoneship Age in Myst
The sound effect played when the word Lost flies by is straight out of the Myst games.
The Moiety in Riven = The Hostiles in Lost
The Hanso Foundation in Lost = The D’ni Restoration Council in Myst (URU Live)
The Dharma Initiative stations on the Lost island are very similar to the tunnels in Ahnonay in URU.
The concept of the “spheres” in Ahnonay is very similar to the theory that the island on Lost is a pendulum swinging back and forth through time.
And that’s just a few right off the top of my head. There are probably many other parallels.
