During Emerald City Comic Con this weekend, Oni Press announced new editions of Bryan Lee O’Malley‘s popular Scott Pilgrim series to be colored in full by famed colorist Nathan Fairbairn.
Fairbairn has worked with some of the best in the best in the business with work including Batman Incorporated, Swamp Thing, and several championed comics, so for him to be chosen as the colorist for these new editions is the best possible result, in my opinion. Scott Pilgrim has been colored previously with several color pages in Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together (the fourth volume in the series), as well as a Free Comic Book Day issue telling a short story of several of the characters, so it’s not an unheard of concept for this to happen.
But the coloring on these editions is only a piece to the “ultra swank” pie that Oni is offering. For the first time, Scott Pilgrim will be presented in a larger-than-digest scale. The size of these new editions are set to be in a 6″ x 9″ hardcover format, which is only slightly bigger than the previous editions, but it’s still a decent offering to purchase new copies. Oni will also be releasing these hardcovers with several pages of bonus content including unpublished material from over the years.
While some may consider these new editions to be pointless, I for one am extremely excited to see what Fairbairn has to offer here because I think he could add a nice, interesting take on this world that so many of us have come to love. And if you don’t believe me, just check out when Scott and Ramona meet each other in person for the first time.
It’s pretty, right!?
If you’re as excited as I am about these new hardcovers, you’ll be just as excited to know that the first two volumes of the series are being released this year with Precious Little Life coming in August and VS. The World is set for later in the year, while the rest of the series will come out bi-annually. With all of the additions, I know I’ll be picking up the new editions, but if you prefer the black and white digest format, Oni made sure to announce that they will be staying in print, as well.
See below for some preview pages the Oni sent out, I think you’ll like what you see!
