Marvel Studios took the Hall H stage at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 to show off their upcoming slate of films and TV shows that will appear on Disney+. While the presentation was more of what they’ve got cooking, there were a few interesting teases that went viral.
One of them was The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Although we weren’t there, Marvel shared a release date for the series. Not only that, but they’ve now teased a first-hand look at Daniel Brühl as Baron Zemo. And this was no ordinary tease. It had him wearing that signature purple mask the villain is known for wearing in the comics. Check out the image below.
Though Marvel’s televised series are said to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they don’t really function as one considering how Marvel Studios and Marvel Entertainment don’t speak to each other in a way that would make it a cohesive shared universe. However, that will be different for the Marvel TV series over at Disney+, Disney’s exclusive streaming service.
While at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige plus Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan took to the stage to talk about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and mentioned a few surprises that will include the return of some characters from the Russo Brothers’ Captain America films. More on all of this, below.
Most of the Avengers roster has been lost because of death or retirement, but some of the heroes will live on and continue to avenge through a variety of shows that will appear exclusively on Disney’s upcoming Disney+ streaming service. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will bring back Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan to reprise their respective titular roles. Though it’s not clear what will happen to the pair post-Avengers: Endgame, it looks like the two will run into some familiar faces.
According to new reports, Emily VanCamp and Daniel Brühl are both in talks to reprise their respective roles on the upcoming show. Additionally, Kari Skogland (The Walking Dead) has been hired to direct the series. More on this below.
Black Mirror is a sharp and witty satirical drama akin to The Twilight Zone, but with a more technological vibe. The show has explored many of those dangers with our obsession with technology, the inability to curb it, our reliance on it, and what would happen if there was no oversight.
And now Black Mirror will be back again for season five. Though it will have a significantly shorter season than any of the seasons that came before, it will still have the same major star power as any other season. Miley Cyrus, Anthony Mackie, and Topher Grace will all star in the three episodes that will appear this season. An official trailer has been released for the new season, and you can check it out below.
For a long time, we’ve heard about how the Marvel Cinematic Universe will expand into television on Disney’s streaming subscription service, Disney+. One of the first shows to be announced was Loki, which would star Tom Hiddleston as the titular character on a show that would have Quantum Leap vibes. Next up, Falcon and Winter Soldier, and Scarlet Witch and Vision. These would focus on these pairs in new stories that would take place after Avengers: Endgame. Additionally, there would be Marvel Studios’ first animated show called What If, and the newly announced Hawkeye show that will bring back Jeremy Renner to play the title character who will teach Kate Bishop how to be an Avengers archer.
Now, during an investors meeting, Disney confirmed that Falcon and Winter Soldier, and the Scarlet Witch and Vision show which is now being called WandaVision, are being added to their Marvel Studios television lineup. More on the report below.
