This summer will see the close of the Harry Potter film franchise with the eighth and final movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and word comes now that there will be a major change being made from the book.
There have been several changes from the books to the films, but all with Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling‘s approval, and this time around, the author has apparently given the thumbs up for this upcoming revision.
Continue reading below for information on this major change — and obviously, SPOILERS.
Spoilers
Andrew Ackland-Snow, who is the art director for the Harry Potter film series, revealed in an interview with Cine Premiere Mexico that the death of Severus Snape will be different in the final film than it was in the book.
“We wanted to change a bit where Snape dies. In the book, he dies on the Shrieking Shack, and we wanted to get him out from, not a conventional interior, but from that kind of box, to do it in a more dramatic atmosphere. We asked J.K. if she agreed for that to happen in there, because we hadn’t really seen it before. We made a crystal house, and you can see what happens in the boat house from there – Are you listening Harry? -, but also the school is in flames…and she loved it. Besides, it’s a very romantic place to die. Snape dies in a extremely good way, I gotta say.”
END SPOILERS
For those of you familiar with the final Harry Potter book, what do you think of the way the filmmakers are changing Snape’s death?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 hits theaters on July 15, 2011.
I…. don’t know what to say.
I love the way he dies in the books, I find it to be incredibly poetic: the Shack was a special, symbolic place to him, it made sense that his last moments and his last offering to Harry happened in there.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see, let’s hope they make it beautiful; Snape deserves an honorable depiction of his death.
Frankly the movies are a monstrous, evil corporate entity that should have never been produced. The books are superior by far. I can’t believe J.K. gave any kind of approval to anything that deviated soooo far from her original vision.
Nooooo…
I was hoping after the way part 1 adapted the book so well that part 2 would be just as true to the book. That part was one of the most memorable for me…
But in defence I’ll say that decisions like this are not to do with money (unless somehow the new scene is to make it “cooler”. These are usually directorial decisions – if it’s a studio decision, it’s not gonna help them make more money. Making them in 2 parts makes more money XD
I really feel like HBP, was the most disappointing of all the movies. The destruction of the Burrough… Really? Destroy the Burrough and leave out the fight in Hogwarts?? Not sure why they did that. nstead of putting the focus on Ron’s relationships, they could have done a better job of showing the relationship build between Harry and Jenny. I am also angry because the conversation between Dumbledore and the Dursley’s was left out. I think that showed a bit of Dumbledore’s ominscience and how he truly felt about Harry. In the movie, did anyone realize the Griffendore quidditch team with Harry’s first year as captain won it all.
Now onto TDH:
The reason why part 1 was solid, it truly filled in a few holes from the previous movies. I wish either HBP or DH1 would show that Harry took ownership og Grimault Place and thats why creature was forced to obey Harry. Then Kreacher’s tale could have ended with Harry giving Kreacher the locket and the growing affection for the trio. Other than that, I thought they were in the woods as much in the movie as they were in the book. I think that it showed their true seclusion. Was that the realest “on screen” scream taht you have ever heard when Hermoine was being tortured?? Just listen to it… It seemed so realistic. Other than the deficiences that I just mentioned, I thought the movie did okay. I can’t wait for part 2. I am less concerned about where and how Severus dies, more concerned about the memories that they reveal..

What was wrong with the way he died in the book?
