Audible presented an immersive experience for the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter at this year’s New York Comic-Con. The entire Harry Potter Pensieve Experience is narrated by the incredibly talented Jim Dale, and begins before even entering the enclosed NYCC booth. While waiting in line, the voice of Dumbledore can be heard explaining the Pensieve to Harry. Just before entering, fans choose a vial based on one of six characters – Harry, Hermione, Ron, Dumbledore, Snape, or Voldemort – to be placed into the Pensieve inside. Once a character’s vial is chosen, it’s time to begin the experience.
Inside the booth, swirling, color-changing clouds are strewn about and moving in glass structures, offering a mystical, ethereal feel and adding to the magical element of the experience. There are four stations set up inside, with each resembling the Pensieve. At each station, a new memory for the character chosen can be heard through a set of headphones. I chose Ron for my experience, whom I think of as a funny character, offering quite a bit of comic relief; however, I was reminded of his depth and what he went through and risked for his friends and the world.
At the end of the Pensieve Experience, I was given the option to choose a specific character’s wand, and was placed into a video (which you can check out here below). I chose Hermione’s wand and had a lot of fun casting spells for the camera!
