El Mayimbe from Latino Review revealed two bits of news last night about The A-Team and Thor films on his guest appearance on The Drill Down.
Twentieth Century Fox is looking to cast Bruce Willis as A-Team leader Col. John “Hannibal” Smith in John Singleton‘s upcoming remake of The A-Team; while Marvel Studios is eyeing Brad Pitt to star as the title character in their upcoming big-screen Thor adaptation.
No offers have been made to the actors; so far, it seems like it’s all just wishful thinking on the studios’ part.
While the A-Team film, written by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, is scheduled for release on June 12, 2009, no official casting has been announced. Other casting rumors are Woody Harrelson as Murdock and Ice Cube as B.A. That trio so far sounds like perfect casting to me, if the studio can swing the deals. But who will play Faceman and Triple A?
For Thor, Marvel announced last week that the Thor big-screen adaptation would hit theaters on June 4, 2010; and also that the once-attached director Matthew Vaughn (Stardust) is no longer on the project (his holding deal expired last December).
While Pitt is a big name (obviously), does he really have power to draw audiences to a film about Norse mythology? I don’t think he necessarily did much for Troy. But, I could see him as the hammer-wielding God of Thunder, especially if he bulks up for the role.
That leaves Thor with a 2010 release date, an early script draft from Mark Protosevich, and no cast or director. Marvel is currently awaiting on Protosevich’s revised script. (Check back here soon for the Geeks of Doom review of Protosevich’s 2007 Thor draft.)
I can’t say I have any thoughts on who else should be cast or who’d be a good director for Thor, but one thing I can absolutely suggest is that either Manowar to do the film score, or that at least some Manowar songs are incorporated into the movie (and trailer, for sure!). You know how Black Sabbath has “Iron Man”? Well, Manowar has “Thor (The Powerhead).” Actually, Marvel should just HIRE ME as the film’s music consultant, as I’d know exactly where to put the songs. (Hey, Marvel, I’m available!)
That does seem like good casting to me as well.

Willis could work as Hannibal, but who the hell is gonna play Howlin’ Mad Murdock? There’s only one Dwight Schultz! (It BETTER not be Jim Carrey.)
