Ladies and gentleman, the great, great Stan Winston has left us.
AICN got word earlier today that Mr. Winston passed on last night after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma — an incurable-but-treatable form of cancer that attacks the plasma cell, a crucial part of the immune system. Winston apparently battled with the disease for seven years. He was 62 years old.
Stan Winston brought to life characters and creatures that will live on long after all of us are gone; eternally magical and memorable beings. When he passed away, he was still doing work on big-time movies like the much-talked about Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, James Cameron’s Avatar, and Jurassic Park IV.
Winston is a multiple Academy Award nominee and has won Oscars for Best Visual Effects for Aliens, Jurassic Park, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. His works can also be seen in all of the Terminator and Jurassic Park films, as well as Predator, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, and most recently, Iron Man — namely, the Iron Man suit.
Below are a handful of pictures of some of the characters that Winston worked on, just to remind us all what kind of a mark this man left in the world of movies and how “larger-than-life” these creations all are.

He will be missed.
