Yes, MGM is still trying to remake RoboCop, as much as you hoped and wished it would go away if no one talked about it for a while.
It’s being reported that Nick Schenk has been hired to work on the screenplay for the long-in-development remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 sci-fi classic. Schenk doesn’t have a whole lot of writing credits to his name, but one big title he did work on the script for was Clint Eastwood’s tragically non-Oscar nominated drama, Gran Torino.
The remake is currently set to be directed by Jose Padilha, who made the 2002 documentary Bus 174 and 2007’s Elite Squad, and the hope is to begin production by this summer.
Of course for that to happen, the process has to finally get past just hiring and replacing writers and directors and actually cast someone to fill the role one played by Peter Weller, as well as other casting.
