According to their website, the appropriately titled geekswhodrink.com, Geeks Who Drink is a Denver-based company that hosts Bar Trivia at over 800 pubs and restaurants in 46 states. Unlike a typical “trivia night,” their quizzes are collective efforts by dozens of quizmasters, writers, fact-checkers, graphic designers, and artists. Several of my friends are huge Bar Trivia aficionados and for the trivia nut in your life here comes the quintessential accompaniment: Geeks Who Drink Presents: Duh!: 100 Bar Trivia Questions You Should Know (And the Unexpected Stories Behind the Answers), edited by Christopher D. Short.

The over 200-page book distributed by Adams Media is chock full of fun questions, answers, and anecdotes that will make for more fun at the bar. The chapters are divided using 100 questions ranging from topics like “Jock Scraps” (sports), “Eat Me” (food), “Statecrap” (history and geography), and “Uh-oh, It’s a Science Chapter (well, you guessed it).

As a history teacher, I enjoyed tossing through the Statecrap section. Who was the first President without a law degree? Who was the first President with a middle name? Think before answering, but follow Occam’s razor. The book even says, they come up with questions designed to try to make you overthink.

Editor Christopher D. Short was a six-time Jeopardy champion, but now he’s the chief editor of Geeks Who Drink. This collection is perfect if you’re not up for a night out at the bar. You can invite friends over, open up a 6-pack, and pass this book around. Keep score or just exchange questions and answers until you’re tipsy. Or just leave this out in the living room or even the bathroom as it makes a quick and fun read in nearly any environment.

100 hilarious essays, based on blindingly obvious questions, from the creators of Geeks Who Drink””led by six-time Jeopardy! champion, Christopher D. Short.

The best trivia questions are usually the ones that are right on the tip of your tongue””so obvious that you may not know the answer offhand, but you should.

In Duh, America’s foremost masters of pub quiz, Geeks Who Drink, will take trivia lovers on a voyage through 100 of our face-palmiest questions. Along the way, we’ll explore the blind hills and corners that make random knowledge so much fun. In hilarious, informative, bite-size essays, we’ll explore such not-really-mysteries as:

-How many stars are on the Texas state flag?
-Odlaw is the nemesis of what kid book character?
-What’s the last word in the King James Bible?

Even if you already know the “what”””and you might not!””we’ll fill in the “why.” And the when, where, and how. By the end you may feel dumber, but you’ll be smarter. We almost guarantee it!

By the way, that would be one (lone) star, Waldo, and “Amen.” Duh!
