Coming to U.S. shores this week is the Universal Home Entertainment DVD release of Rogue Pictures and Working Title Films’ Hot Fuzz
. (Read my film review here.)
Anyone who is familiar with their Shaun Of The Dead release will know that you’re going to get pretty much everything you want in this DVD dealing with the brilliant creators behind it. The disc itself features the original English audio, as well as Spanish and French dubs, all in Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. Subtitles are also included, with English for the deaf and hard of hearing, Spanish, and French.
Kicking off the extras is a feature-length audio commentary with star Simon Pegg and director Edgar Wright. The friendship between the two is infectious as they banter back and forth in this lively commentary dispensing jokes, personal stories, and handy information about the movie. Also available to play during the movie is the “Fuzz-O-Meter,” which is a text trivia track and the original storyboards that show the progress of the film from paper to screen.
The bonus features contain a slew of extras, most of which have been ported over directly from the 2-Disc UK version. First up is the 22 deleted scenes with optional commentary by Wright. Many of these scenes are extended bits and pieces that had been trimmed from the feature film, which were cut for either time restraints or that the joke was just not quite funny enough. There are also several scenes dealing with sub-plots which were dramatically reduced in the final cut.
The other major extra here is “The Fuzzball Rally: U.S. Tour Piece” which follows Wright, Pegg, and co-star Nick Frost as the trek across America promoting the film. There is plenty of fun to be had by the trio, whose long relationship as friends and working partners is clearly visible in they way that they goof off and relate to one another.
The disc is rounded out with a hodge podge of quickie extras. “Hot Funk” features a compilation of scenes with alternates of softer dialogue for future television cuts. “Danny’s Notebook” includes his full flipbook animation. “The Man Who Would Be Fuzz” is a bizarre alternate scene between Pegg and Frost. Finally, “Trailers” includes the Theatrical Trailer, The Director’s Cut Trailer, and two UK TV Spots.
For fans of the creators, and with this much content to sort through, the Hot Fuzz DVD (HD DVD
also available) is a no-brainer to add to your collection. The Neighborhood Watch Alliance is expecting your full cooperation.
