After some sort of disagreement, the role of Tony Stark’s best friend Jim Rhodes originally played by Terrence Howard in Iron Man, has been re-cast with Don Cheadle for the eventual Iron Man 2.
The exact reasons behind this unexpected turn of events is unknown, but it’s looking like some stupid monetary disagreement. Someone needs to chat with whoever is negotiating these deals, as it’s never a good omen to have disputes like this and this already makes two for the young project after difficulties arose while trying to reach a deal with director Jon Favreau.
Although Don Cheadle is a great actor, it will only hurt the second movie for fans when they have to warm up to a whole new Rhodey — especially with that character looking to expand in a huge way as War Machine at some point in the franchise. It’s just plain and simple weird to have a face to a character and then have that face change… EVEN in the world of superheroes.
This announcement comes really, really early as it’ll be a while before we see anything on Iron Man 2, so who knows if this will actually hold up. At the moment, it seems to be pretty finalized though.

This is bullshit of the highest power.
Terrence Howard was the ultimate Rhodey. I’ve been reading for 14 years, Don Cheadle is the wrong man.

When I first saw Iron Man, I thought everyone was great EXCEPT Terrence Howard. He just didn’t seem to fit the part and his soft-spoken, sometimes lispy speaking voice was out of place in the film. I like Don Cheadle, but I can’t picture him in the role either.

yeah, cheadle just seems an odd selection.
honestly both characters are far too old, but anyway.

Well, Terrence Howard was ok but like Empress Eve said he was a bit soft spoken for the role. It will damage the movie some if he does not return (It will, but not tooooo much). Plus, Don Cheadle? Really? I can not see him playing the part of Jim Rhodes. I may be wrong though. We’ll see. =)

Seems really odd. — I guess it could be worse. They could switch out John Travolta for Robert Downey Jr. :)
