Apparently Lionsgate is putting all of their eggs into the basket, adorned with copies of The Hunger Games.
With the first film in the beloved franchise still looking to hit theaters, the wheels are turning for a sequel, an adaptation of the second novel, Catching Fire. Director Gary Ross is busy still working on the first film, so with him set to direct its sequel, a writer is being eyed, and Deadline is reporting that it may in fact be Slumdog Millionaire scribe Simon Beaufoy.
The outlet reports that instead of Ross working on the script with the novel’s author Suzanne Collins, Beaufoy may be jumping aboard. Personally, while I haven’t been much of a fan of Beaufoy’s work, particularly Millionaire, the guy does know his way around a pen and paper, so here’s to hoping that the writer can prove this one wrong. The trailer for the first film was interesting enough, so there does appear to be a lot of great material to mine here. Fingers are definitely crossed for this sucker.
