The Walking Dead: Days Gone By

Comixology announced on Monday that, in conjunction with Skybound Entertainment, the online comics retailer will be offering a free digital download for The Walking Dead: Days Gone By to WonderCon attendees.

You’re going to be hard pressed these days to find many people attending a comic book convention that haven’t yet read the first collected edition of The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore, but if you are one of the poor souls who haven’t experienced the first chapter of this zombie apocalypse epic that spawned a mega-popular television show, or if you just want the the digital volumes, then this should definitely be on your radar. At this weekend’s WonderCon in Anaheim, CA, free downloads of the first volume of The Walking Dead will be available for the first 5,000 people that visit the Comixology booth (Booth #107).

It’s without a doubt a pretty sweet deal, let’s be honest. I mean, I already have this and I’m sure a lot of you do, too, but if you’re trying to build your digital comics collection, then what better way to add The Walking Dead: Days Gone By for absolutely free from the Internet’s most popular digital comics retailer? I can’t think of any better way. But here’s the thing, if I were able to go to this event, I wouldn’t take one of the download cards, you know why? Because I’m already reading this comic. Say you’re in line and your the 4,997 person and behind you three people is a person that really loves the TV show for some reason, they don’t have a comic book store in their hometown and their access to the internet and finances is limited, but they still want to start reading some comics. Wouldn’t you feel like a bit of a jerkwad if you took away their opportunity to finally try something out that you’ve read probably on multiple occasions? I’m not casting stones if that’s something that you would do, but I certainly would be like a jerk if I did that.

So, please, if you’ve already read this portion of The Walking Dead, I implore you to pass on getting the free download and allow someone who hasn’t tried out the series yet the opportunity to do so. You would not only be acting like a decent human being, you’d also potentially be welcoming a newcomer into the realm of comics fandom.

Other than that, if you’re there and you plan on getting your hands on this free download, make sure to look for the promo card here below, because that’s where the download code will be.

Comixology can be found at WonderCon booth #107 this weekend from March 16-18 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA.
